Raising Refounders New York

New York was one of the original 13 colonies prior to the Revolutionary War and was admitted to the Union on July 26, 1788, being the 11th state to ratify the new US Constitution.  The capital city is Albany, in upstate New York, but the most famous city on American, perhaps the world, is New York City which is located on the Southern tip of the state, next to New Jersey.

New York City is the most populous city in the nation with 8.3 million people crammed together in a space of just about 350 square miles.  This makes it the most densely populated city in the country as well.

New York is Famous for the Statue of Liberty, which was a gift from the French people to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and meant to carry the ideas of freedom and liberty to the rest of the world.

It is also noted for the attacks of September 11, 2001 when radical Islamic terrorists attacked the United States of America because they hate us, our way of life, our ideas, and the spread of freedom.  This attack killed almost 3000 people and wounded several thousand others.  The attack consisted of 2 airplanes being flown straight into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, causing them to collapse into the city.  The event changed America forever, making some love their country more, while others sympathize with the radical Islamic hate.  Today we still fight these people in the wars in the Middle East and here at home.

Even though the Hoover dam was built in just 5 years and the Empire State Building (also in New York) was built in only 1 year, the site at Ground Zero where the Twin Towers fell remains in virtual ruins almost 10 years after the event.  No one has bothered to erect a memorial to the people who were victims of religious hate on that terrible day.  It is just an empty space, in the ground and in our hearts.
