Raising Refounders Connecticut

The name Connecticut come s from the Algonquian Indian word for "Beside the long tidal river".  It was one of the original 13 colonies and was admitted to the Union on January 9, 1788 as the 5th state.  It's capital city is Hartford.  The approximate population of Connecticut is just over 3.5 million people and they are spread out over 4,845 square miles.  Because of Connecticut's close proximity to New York City, it is a popular place for those who work in the city to live and raise a family.

Connecticut only has one substantial Rive, aptly named the Connecticut River.  It is the largest river in the New England area and flows south from the Connecticut lakes in Northern New Hampshire all the way down to Long Island Sound for a total length of 407 miles.

Ethan Allen was one famous person form Connecticut.  He was a politician and patriot form the Revolutionary War.  One of his fellow patriots, Nathan Hale, was also from Connecticut and was considered America's First Spy!  Unfortunately he was discovered and hung for his action - but before he died he declared the following: I am so satisfied with the cause in which I have engaged that my only regret is that I have not more lives than one to offer in its service.  This has been shortened to another famous phrase that you might have heard before: I only regret that I have but one life to give for my country.
